Commonly Overlooked Considerations for Choosing a Hot Tub

Hot tubs are relaxing and are a wonderful addition to an outdoor space. And, if you are currently looking at your options, then you probably know that there are dozens of different spas to choose from. While you are considering the multitude of choices, there are a few important things that you may overlook. Keep reading to learn what they are so you are truly making the best choice for you.

Electrical Hook Up

Your hot tub will need electricity to function and there are a few ways that this can work. You can have the unit wired to the electrical system outside your home or you can plug the device directly into an outlet. And, whatever you decide, you will need to make sure that you buy the hot tub with the correct electrical hook up.

If you are thinking of buying a plug and play unit, then you will need to make sure that there is a grounded outdoor outlet that is close enough to the hot tub that you can plug it in. The spa should be plugged directly into the outlet without an extension cord for safety purposes. Typically, you will have about five to six feet of cord, so the hot tub should be positioned relatively close to the outlet. And, the outlet will need to supply the correct voltage, so make sure it matches the hot tub you choose.

If you do not have an outlet available, then think about buying a hot tub that can be wired to your home. These spas do have some benefits over the plug varieties. The voltage for the devices is usually double that of a plug type, meaning that the unit will heat up faster and will stay warm for a longer period of time. Also, the unit will have its own breaker for safe use.

Tub Weight

While you may be more concerned about the size of the hot tub and the aesthetic value, you should be considering the weight of the spa. This is especially true if you are placing the hot tub inside your home or installing it on an outdoor porch or patio. When it comes to weight, you should know that acrylic and vinyl tubs are going to be the lightest. And, if you opt for an inflatable shell, then you can reduce the weight substantially once water is added to the spa.

Keep in mind that wood is often quite heavy when it comes to hot tubs, so if you do like the finished look of wood, investigate the weight limits for your porch or patio to make sure that the filled hot tub does not exceed these limits. Serivces with hot tubs for sale will likely help ensure that someone is there to ensure the weight is appropriate for your property.
